Well, we all feel more human today, more robusto and up for the challenge of settling in. We went to sleep as soon as our bejaj (tuk-tuk, 3-wheeled, moped-engined personal taxi that threatens to eject the starboard passenger at every left turn) got us home from the hotel. We slept a good 11 hours last night: through the voice (see below) and the bleating goats and the birds and all got up around 9. We have been 100% unsuccessful in meeting the "pan man" storekeeper at the guest house who will supply us with utensils, pans, kettle etc. so we made our second trip to the wonderful nameless restaurant across the road that Elliott and I visited pre-sleep on day 1. We used our new flashcard knowledge and requested "fasting food" (vegetarian) for Sonal and three coffees and had a second coffee ceremony with popcorn. The fasting food for three was awesome. Our injira was loaded with red lentil wat, cooked cabbage, carrots and beets, lettuce and tomato and Aran, we'll be frequenting this place (maybe requesting formal adoption) so we'll take pictures of food and coffee there. The ceremony's pretty wonderful with 12 cups laid out to represent the 12 apostles, water heated over a hand-fanned terra cotta mini oven, mixed with ground beans that were toasted in front of us in a little skillet, and poured from a healthy height in stages (to let the grounds settle out) into our sugar-loaded little espresso cups which wait on a grass-covered tray. Strong and delicious.
Hmm, ok... the amplified voice is still somewhat a mystery in terms of content and audience though we have a physical source. Most of the time it is a male voice, sometimes singing what sound like prayers, sometimes sermonizing. It emanates from one of a thousand corrugated metal shacks along the nearest road. Most of these sell water and soap or three types of veggies or offer shoe shine or a haircut but this one has a big speaker and is wall-papered with Christian posters and stocked with CDs, presumably of this same man.
Well, the Lammergeyer WiFi isn't working well enough to upload more pics today. Here are the descriptions for a teaser. I'll try again tomorrow after work.
Elliott in his House Pants (to keep the outside out) in comfy supination:
Sonal enjoying our first proper mixed juice drink: avocado, papaya, pineapple with lime garnish at the Skyline: a well-deserved refresher after our expedition to the outdoor market. We scored berbere (spice), red lentils, clothes line, sugar, a pot, a coffee strainer, carrots, beets, hot peppers, garlic bundles, and new pride in our haggling and piazza boy dismissal skills.

Love the new tradition of commentary on non-existent photographs. Keep it up, this could be the new Haiku. Elizabeth, Happy Due Date to you, you April fooler. I enjoy the coffee ceremony lots.
The food just sounds amazing ... Maybe I'll go get some Ethiopian food today for dinner =]
Happy Birthday, Sonal!
A Storm of Swords! Elliott why have you not gone digital yet? You're lugging large GS Martin books around the Globe?
