This (half-)birthday weekend was spent sharing germs with as many friends as possible. It's so fun watching her interact with other kids. There's a lot more petting and squealing than I expected. (I toss 'em up, you hit 'em, oh gutter-minded jokesters.) We hung out with Hugo and his folks Friday night, sadly bidding fare winds to them on their travels to Californian sun. Megan and Kaliah and Desmond and his folks, Duncan and Stephanie came over for brunch on Saturday morning and played on the couch for a good while. Elephant courtesy of the Philadelphia Ryans.
After Katy and I ran our final long run before the December 1st Seattle Half Marathon, Zach and Gus came over to watch football and play on the Big Blue Mat. Gus was really sweet as Fiona grabbed his face; he's a practiced older brother.
KP and Haven joined us at half-time and tried to feed Fiona string cheese which was cute and ineffective.
THEN we went out to the Madrona Alehouse with the Mayers. Everett spent much of the night sitting on laps of nice strangers who were eager to act as surrogate grandmothers. But when he chose to join us he was super entertaining. School girl piggy courtesy of the Aurora Bogels.
At home we taped a candle to a frozen teething foot to celebrate the six months of joy, awe, transformation, and ever-increasing love we've experienced together. Then we ate Ben and Jerry's Half-Baked frozen yogurt and tried to sleep off the sugar high.
Oh, the sitting! She's such a strong sitter. Like all these milestones it happens faster than you expect. All of a sudden she's sitting. You can push her in any direction and she pops back up like a weeble wobble. There is some falling down; hence the Big Blue Mat.
Bunny hat courtesy of Grammy, of course. Still fits!
This kid's so happy. I love it.
We had her 6-month well child check today and it was great. She's almost 75th percentile for length, and now this little squirt is 23rd percentile for weight! That's 14# 11oz, just shy of triple her birth weight.
Her weight for her length (the baby equivalent of a BMI), however, is just under the 5th percentile. This is a situation with which my family is not familiar. We, as a group, have not been told, "It's ok to add butter or oil for extra calories to any food". But we are psyched to do it! We're all gonna eat more butter and oil in solidarity. (p.s. Nobody's worried about her.)
Begin operation Chubby Thighs, 2.0: Now with Olive Oil!
Oh, and the bunny hat fitting is a little surprising given her current 87th percentile for head circumference. Yeah, Kerry, I don't know who these babies are with "average heads".
6 month vaccinations were ok. She was injected in both thighs simultaneously by two rapid-fire nurses armed with Daffy Duck band-aids and she got her 6 (six!) shots in no time. She turned red and silent, screamed, nursed, recovered. This go-round she's been in good spirits and hardly napping all day.
Nice band-aids!
Dude, look, it's a mythical moose!
Oh and, jeez, we bought the house in Ithaca! We're still waiting to close but our offer was accepted and we're already feeling like Belle Sherman residents. Now where to hang a swing in the back yard...
xoxo
