Oh my goodness, this has been a FULL few weeks!
So many friends and mud puddles and baked goods and cousins and dogs and small acts of age-appropriate aggression with loving chasers and thorough messes with tubby chasers and books and sun and the beginnings of new big things.
Most importantly, happy third birthday, dear girl.
OK, here's the massive photo deposit:
From a wonderful, wandery party at Leah and Josh's house.
Dance party with Josiah and watermelon.
Doing the announcements and singing Jingle Bells into the microphone with Oona.
Leisurely scones with Josh and Sam, Fiona's best friends from Willow Class.
Painting Emma's birthday card.
And some body parts.
Sam took all Fiona's PJs out so something had to go in the drawer.
Happy Birthday, Emma!
Fiona wore pearls and a leotard for the occasion.
Mmmm... frosting.
Where's Meg?
Right there!
Awe-struck and held close.
Babyhood is amazing.
Elliott took a 5-day trip to Seattle for some business and a hiking trip with friends in the Olympics.
Home alone, I closed the kitchen door and went upstairs to pee, as people do.
It was not a particularly long pee.
When I got down the kids were gone, the door open, and I found them on the way to the neighbors'.
So pleased!
Ummm... what are you doing, Fiona?
"I love him."
Look at this bright-eyed lunch date dreaming about treehouses with me.
Visiting Clara's slide next door.
Flying with her shooting star from the Waldorf festival.
Making nose prints on Grammy's mothers' day card.
Not thrilled.
Messy.
Thrilled.
Messy.
Pleased.
Messy.
Curious.
Really messy.
Really pleased.
Does this count as helpful?
Clean gigglers.
"I love the way you crawl."
FINALLY after much delay we got to Massachusetts.
We hadn't seen these guys since Christmas and we had JUST enough time for a quick get-away to the land of grass, ponds, pooches, hooch, and hugs.
Exploring Mount Eliza.
She is a benevolent creature.
Watching Dilsey swim from her potty.
Run, Pop!
Flying the birthday kite.
(That's it at waist level behind him. Dilsey looks impressed.)
Making mom want to vomit.
Exploring the giant "F" Uncle Alex mowed for Fiona with Eliza and Ainsley.
Sausages and waffles. Yum.
Discovering grabbable eyebrows.
Faux napping with real auntie.
A chilly pit-stop on the drive home.
And a purple smoothie for gezzert.
This past week Fiona transitioned from her Willow toddler class up to Walnut primary classroom. Now she's with Josh and Sam's big brother Toby and some old pals like Miles, who preceded her from Willow. The class is much bigger and there are 6-year-olds in it!! She's done two full days there now, including what sounded like a really sweet birthday celebration in which her classmates put their wishes for her into a chosen stone, sang to her, and she walked thrice around the candle sun. She said she felt special.
Sam is also starting Montessori this week in the baby Nido classroom with some crawlers and a whole bunch of big walkers. It's pretty wonderful.
But, even when it's all good stuff, change can be overwhelming.
Happy Birthday!
We love you, transformative dear one.
