100 days doesn't sound like very much to me but, in the happiest sense, I feel like we've been parents for a long time. Maybe when she stops learning something demonstrably new and amazing every day we'll have that, "Gosh, this is flying by" feeling but not now.
Well, we all made it through my first week back to work. I had a light schedule for the first week back --my patients seem to have forgotten about me-- and it was great to see colleagues but it still felt fully exhausting. It's a massive change to have anything that trumps Fiona's rhythms. It's been such a luxury to be able to simply respond to her and live in her world for three months and it's straight up sad to now incorporate her into the bigger world that includes alarm clocks and appointments and clothes that socially shouldn't have breast milk on them. But I feel some relief after this week as well in seeing that the magic of her babyness doesn't disappear when I re-embrace my identity as part of the helpful work force. It's really great to come home.
And here's what I get to come home to (Grammy already joined the library and the YMCA and rented a cello; this is gonna be one heck of a fall):
And sometimes work friends come home with me! Aunty Babs visited for a couch cuddle.
Fiona's hand skill development changes daily. She's gone from batting seemingly randomly and getting frustrated to reaching intentionally, grabbing, and bringing things to her mouth. Today she found her thumb and, though she poked herself in the eye several times with her other fingers, seemed to like and remember it. Such a genius! This grabbable bunny-pop is from Tobias' mom, Ginger.
What a happy little kid... with grandpa pants pulled up to her nipples...
Grammy and Fiona went for their first stroller walk while I was at work.
Christian came up to visit from Portland and brought vegetables larger than her head.
"Dude! I'm totally standing on this tall guy's chest!" She's been holding her legs locked this past week and pushing off against things.
Holding a masher and her ComoTomo.
Week 2 holds great promise for bottle skills; that was the roughest part of the week.
Lots of exploration with her mouth. We've been exploring many new sensory experiences together - lavender, rosemary, dry leaves, soft leaves, hops, banana, Pop's beard... but she loves the alpaca.
Our vegetable garden took a hit when we abandoned it for a full month in the high summer heat so these carrots turned out to be just her size. 3 more months and we can mash 'em up for her. Not these particular carrots...
Reycroft!
He gets more and more alluring as they both mature.
Conked out after a feed while the big kids watch football.
That bottom lip creased and tucked in is a thing of kissable beauty.
As is the furry man on the left.
Happy 100, sweet girl. We love you.
